Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c)
HbA1c (Glycated Haemoglobin) — reflects 3-month average blood-sugar control, the gold-standard test for diabetes monitoring.
About this test
HbA1c (Glycated Haemoglobin or A1C) is a blood test that reflects your average blood-sugar level over the previous 8–12 weeks. It is the international gold standard for diagnosing diabetes and monitoring the long-term control of patients already on treatment. Unlike fasting glucose, HbA1c does NOT require fasting and is not affected by recent meals — making it a convenient any-time test. The American Diabetes Association uses HbA1c ≥
- 5% to diagnose diabetes and
- 7–
- 4% as prediabetes. At Classic Diagnostics, HbA1c is performed by HPLC (NGSP-aligned), the most accurate method.
